Cracticus tibicen

Feeds on grounds and very territorial birds. Flight is strong and direct; loud wing swish. Bluish tipped bill. Males have a black head, back, under parts and wings. White nape/collar, shoulders, rump, underwings and undertail coverts. Black terminal bank on white tail. Females are similar to the males but nape and lower back are pale to medium grey with slightly darker streaksĀ  and mottles. This applies to the Black-backed Magpie races tibicen, terraereginae, eylandtensis, longirostris.
