Red-vented Bulbul

Pycnonotus cafer

I have yet to come across a place where this bird is not a resident, whether it’s a local species or not. When I was in Hawaii I noticed that there were more bulbuls there than in Sri Lanka! As you may have noticed it’s most prized characteristic is its red vent, thus the name “Red-vented” Bulbul. Wings are brown. Belly is black with a dusting of white. It has a lovely black crest which rises when curiosity gets the better of them, or if you just happen to annoy them. This birds have an awesome temperament (well mine did) and are extremely vocal. I kid you not!
