Peppergrass

Indian Roller

Coracias benghalensis

Also known as the Indian Blue Jay, is another common breeding resident in both India and Sri Lanka. Again I have not seen it here at home before, even though it is found throughout the island. Something tells me that my birding skills are quite pathetic. Sigh!

These birds have large heads and are a sort of dark pinkish-brown colour, allowing them to blend in with their surroundings. It’s only when they take flight that you see a sudden burst of blue from their wings. Both sexes are alike. Juveniles however are a duller shade compared to the adults.
