Peppergrass

Digger Wasp

Genus Sphex

Not sure what the species is, but I know that it’s a Digger Wasp. This little guy is a spider hunter. If it’s a female then the burrow she’s digging will be later filled with a single (rather large) spider. This spider (bless it’s poor soul) will be quite a live but also quite paralyzed. On it the wasp will lay a single egg and then cover up the burrow. Once the egg hatches, the carnivorous larva will basically eat the consious spider. Talk about a slow and painful death.
